Brexit, which was the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union, was finalized on January 31, 2020, after a 2016 referendum. The decision marked a significant shift in UK-EU relations, impacting trade, immigration, and regulatory frameworks. Economically, Brexit led to disruptions in trade due to new customs checks and regulatory barriers, affecting supply chains and businesses. The UK sought to establish new trade agreements globally to mitigate these impacts. Politically, Brexit intensified regional divisions within the UK, fueling debates over Scottish independence and the Northern Ireland protocol, which aimed to prevent a hard border on the island of Ireland. Post-Brexit, the UK has had to navigate a complex new relationship with the EU, characterized by negotiations over trade, security, and…

The Brexit explained article discusses Britain’s exit from the European Union on News.com. In the fall of 2019, it had been a three year journey with three different prime ministers promising to reach a Brexit deal with the EU. Prime Minister Boris Johnson ran for office on the promise to end the delays and reach a decision yet has not been able to gain ground with votes and the court. This article was talking about how the UK and EU were able to bring about a deal that both could get behind. Brexit for context was the decision for the UK to leave the European Union. Though the UK did this move for positive outcomes, there can be some prolonged economic impact from this major decission. For starters, this will have major economic impact. New trade barriers and regulatory differences may impact the flow of goods and services. Brexit could also influence foreign direct investment in the UK and the EU as companies may reconsider their strategies due to uncertainties and changes in the business environment. Given that no country has left the EU till Brexit, politcal ramifications will certainly…

In the article “Brexit Explained,” the UK Prime Minister at the time was Boris Johnson. He came into office promising to finish Brexit. Brexit started in 2016 and during the time this article was written, it is 2019. Brexit has been going on for 3 years, the reason why it is difficult is because Britain and the EU have to find a sustainable way for Britain to exit the EU without causing too much damage economically. It has also been difficult to leave because there is no blueprint to follow. When PM Theresa May had invoked Article 50 of the Treaty on the EU, Britain was set to leave the EU on March 29, 2019. However, that date has passed,…

For my second TeachEcoKnowmics blog comment, I read the article, "Brexit Explained: How Britain went from a referendum to a possible no-deal EU exit via three prime ministers” by Benedict Brook. Before reading this article I had never even heard of Brexit. The article gives the overview of the obstacles that Great Britain has had to go through to try and pass this through Parliament. "Brexit" is basically Great Britain's departure from the European Union. The European Union is a political and economic union of 27 member states that are located primarily in Europe. Their primary purpose is to promote peace among foreign nations and dispute. Great Britain has been trying to leave the EU for a little while mostly…
