As a student that is currently searching for a career path that will provide me with a positive return on my investment, this video helps me by going over the top five most valuable college majors based off researched statistics. While salary may be the leading factor in what makes a college major valuable, the unemployment rate is arguably the second most important factor. Moreover, a salary is negligible if the recipient can’t find a job. A common trend that can be seen across all the majors is that they can all be grouped together under the STEM category. Typically, STEM majors are viewed as more difficult when compared to their art counterparts. Which then leads to the second half…

For my TeachEconomicsBlog Comment #4, I decided to watch the video “College Majors with $100,000 Salaries and Low Unemployment” by CBS News. It discussed that the college majors with the highest salary were Actuarial Science, Zoology, Nuclear Engineering, Health/Medical Prep Programs and Applied Mathematics. The college majors with the lowest salary were Miscellaneous Fine Arts, Composition and Speech, Clinical Psychology, Cosmetology Services and Culinary and Visual and Performing Arts. This was something that did not surprise me because most STEM jobs have very difficult majors that a lot of people are not willing to major in and that is why they have many job openings and pay so much. I was also not surprised to see that majors like clinical…

In the video, CBS News revealed the findings on the five most prosperous college-majors and the five least prosperous college-majors. While the revelations are certainly intriguing, it causes wonder because the listed top-five-majors are not commonly picked. In fact, not even a lot of colleges seem to offer those majors. This may cause one to wonder if the economic state of American employment is designed to keep people generating low income. In fact, the amount of money that one has to pay going to college is often significantly more than the amount of money that he/she makes from his/her job after college, which, ironically, is a job qualified for from college. Even if one does make a vast amount of…

For my second TeachEcoKnowmics blog, I decided to watch this video because it peaks my interest. I would like to point out that I agree to disagree with this video. If you are looking for a job that pays you a high salary without doing any hands-on work, then I agree that these five majors are what gives you a higher pay. However, I just learned this recently in my accounting class that as time goes by, most companies are beginning to need analysts. My professor, Naem Dian, explained to me that a Business Analyst gets paid more up to between $160,000.00 to $200,000.00. I think that is what he said. I was actually really surprised to hear that because…

For my first TechEcoKnowmics Blog Post, I decided to watch and comment on this video that describes the top 5 most valuable college majors. Interestingly, the top 5 most valuable college majors were: Actuarial Science, Zoology, Nuclear Engineering, Health/Medical Prep Programs, and Applied Mathematics. Today, I wanted to focus on two majors from the list that I had a bit of trouble understanding. These majors are actuarial science and Nuclear Engineering. However, as I thought about the importance of these professions to the economy, it became increasingly clear why they deserve their respective spots. After some research, I discovered that actuarial science was related to the risk minimization field. Soon, I understood that the applications for actuaries are limitless as…
