The rise of AI has put many jobs at risk, but it is reassuring to know that some will remain unaffected. Positions involving repetitive tasks, such as those in manufacturing and possibly billing and coding, are among the most vulnerable. Obed Louissant, IBM’s Vice President of People and Culture, notes that AI will impact every job to some degree. However, human and interpersonal skills will become even more valuable, thanks to their reliance on creativity and intellect. The shift in work tasks affects both low- and high-wage positions at a 4-to-1 ratio, resulting in increased wages for workers in both categories. Many companies are prioritizing retraining and reskilling employees, which seems promising for adapting to AI’s future role. Staying proactive…
In the video "AI's Impact Will Extend to 100% of Jobs: IBM" they discuss how AI will affect the job market and various industries. They say that the area with the largest impact will be manufacturing and that those with soft skills will increase in value. With these changes some middle wage jobs have change to low wage jobs or increased to high wage jobs. This actually increased the wages of the low wage jobs by $600 and the high wage jobs by $1200. They then go on to explain that IBM uses a platform that they invested in to help retrain and develop new skills for their employees. This allows for employees to keep their skills up to date…
For my second TeachEcoknowmics Blog Comment I chose to talk about the video AI’s Impact Will Extend to 100% of Jobs: IBM. When I read the title of the article, I was already intrigued due to the actual issues of AI taking over. It is common for people to think that AI is going to take over every job “stealing their jobs”, but what a lot of people don’t realize is how helpful working alongside AI could be. To relate this to a real-life experience that I had over the summer I worked at a company where we had our own AI system that makes pulling data from customers much faster and more organized. With that being said, there are…
For my TeachEconomicsBlog Comment #2, I watched the Bloomberg AI’s Impact will extend to 100% of jobs: IBM video. In the video, Obed Louissaint discussed the fact that we are going to see in all job industries due to the implementation of AI. The jobs that will be most affected are manufacturing jobs due to the fact that most manufacturing jobs consist of repetitive tasks that AI would probably be able to complete faster than a human being. Louissaint states that jobs will begin to search for people with creative skills that AI cannot replicate because they are simply not human. He also explains that there is a shift from low to high wage jobs and the ratio was 4:1…
This blog post featured a video on A.I.’s impact on jobs. Supposedly, 100% of jobs will be impacted by A.I. The person being interviewed stated that A.I. will teach people how to implement new skills and that 45,000 of his employees are already using A.I. Although A.I. has some benefits, it can also lead to humanity’s doom. It is rumored that, by 2030, A.I. will be doing all the thinking and that there will be little to no human thought left. Whether that is true or not, I do agree that too much technology, especially A.I., can indeed cause downfall. During the past two centuries, life expectancy has been raised from fifty years to almost seventy years. Although that is…
